Blast protection is required to shield civil, military and industrial installations from the effects of war terrorism, sabotage and accidental damage where the ventilation airways must be protected to the same level as the building structure. The Andair FC (System Luwa) explosion protection valve has been designed and developed to meet this need. When correctly selected and installed, it will prevent pressure waves generated by conventional, nuclear and FAE weapons penetrating the structure and causing harm to personnel or damage to equipment.

Due to its rectangular modular design the Andair FC (System Luwa) explosion protection valve can be sized for any airflow and pressure drop. It can be fitted in any Each valve block consists of two identical half shells between which are clamped 6 closing leaves made of high alloy spring steel. This simple design concept with only the one moving part gives extremely short closing times against both long duration nuclear and short duration conventional explosions. Therefore, let through pressure and impulse are extremely small.
The half shells are made from aluminium alloy and both the shells and closing leaves have a war gas proof coating for additional corrosion protection. A special maritime coating is available for installations at the seaside and in aggressive industrial areas. The valves are installed in the various support frames with clamping sets. The end profiles are of anodized aluminium, the other parts of galvanized steel. Once the valves are installed in the frames, the openings can be considered as burglar proof thanks to the special design of the fixing.
Shelter components have to meet stringent performance criteria. Obviously blast tests cannot be carried out on completed buildings to prove the effectiveness of the product, so quality and reliability can only be assured by individual product type test together with a strict regime of production quality control.
